Hey everyone! How were your weekends? Mine was pretty good though it's much hotter out this week than it has been lately. Which means I'm adjusting my routine so I can be outside in the backyard in the mornings before it gets too hot and then working on blog posts or whatever down here in the afternoons. Today I'm going to be talking about volume 2 of Codename: Sailor V. So let's get into it.
So I don't have as much to say about this volume as I thought it would. Mainly because, except for the final two chapters, and three chapters in the middle, the book is still as episodic as the first volume, and Sailor V isn't as interesting in this part of the Sailor Moon Saga, as she is in the Sailor Moon manga and anime. There's nothing wrong with the character herself, it's just she only gets her memories of the Moon Kingdom, Princess Serenity, and the other Sailor Guardians in the very last chapter. Up until then, Minako, or Mina as people call her, is still Minako.
Like in the previous volume, you have cameos from characters that will be important in Sailor Moon. I think Usagi appears again, but Ami, Rei, and Makoto appear, and so do Princess Serenity, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Prince Endymion, Kunzite, and Jaedite in flashbacks and in Minako's memories when she gets them back at the end, fully awakening into Sailor Venus. And Artemis thinks about Luna in an earlier chapter.
Story wise there's not much to talk about, since again, each chapter is a standalone episode with the same typical monster of the week formula that volume 1 has. Again, it's really good, just not a while lot to talk about. We also never find out who the character known as Boss is. I think it's supposed to be Luna, much how Artemis was Central Control in the Anime, but there's no indication in this book or in Sailor Moon either, and because Codename: Sailor V isn't usually talked about online as a separate entity from Sailor Moon, I haven't seen any fan theories as to who Boss might actually be.
As I said earlier, I don't have much else to say about this volume. I really enjoyed it though and I would highly recommend it to any Sailor Moon fan who hasn't read it. I'd also recommend it to any fan of superheroes, because this is definitely a superhero book. It hasn't been re-released since 2011, so that edition is probably going to be the easiest one to find.
Alrighty that's gonna be it for me for today. I'll be back on Friday for my review of the 1979 Disney movie, The Black Hole as I continue with my reviews of Disney movies that are either underrated, or ones I have never seen. So until then have a great rest of your day and I will talk to you all later. Take care.
