Hey guys! How's it going? I just wanted to come on here and give a little blog update since there's been some changes since I did my January update. So let's get into it.
The first change is that I started a new blog that focuses entirely on TV shows and pre-television movie serials and short cartoons. My original idea was to do an entire blog series devoted to the Degrassi series so I could watch it from the original shows in the 80s to the end of the series that I watched when I was in high school in the 2000s, and then maybe review the last show, Degrassi: Next Class if I had access to it. Similar to how I reviewed Community last year. Then it was announced that The Muppet Show will be dropping on Disney+ later this month, and Dinosaurs dropped on Disney+ at the end of January and I realized I have shows on DVD and Blu-ray that I haven't watched through yet except for an episode or two here and there. So then I decided that I would do a completely separate blog devoted entirely to television where I could talk about anything TV related that I could think of in addition to the season by season reviews of the shows I have access to. Which leads to the second change that I'm actually just announcing here now.
So as you know I am a huge fan of VHS. I have a decent collection of them, I actually watch the tapes, and I love talking about them on the blog. I've attempted to do this before, and nothing's really come of it for one reason or another, but with the TV show blog being my priority and I can easily do VHS and comic book reviews, especially since with the VHS reviews, I'm basically talking about my memories of watching those particular tapes.
What this new series is is a look at the tapes that I grew up with. Whether I owned them, rented them from the video store, or borrowed them from someone, I want to talk about VHS tapes. Basically I will pick one tape a week to talk about, and if I have the tape then I will watch it before writing about it. I'll talk about when I got the tape, if I remember when I got it and who got it for me, and I'll talk a little bit about the contents of the tape as well. Because we rented alot of tapes when I was growing up, I'm only going to talk about the ones we rented more than once, or tapes that were my favourites but I only rented once.
I'm also going to be talking about my favourite DVDs that I had in my collection when I was in high school as well. We didn't have alot of DVDs until after I had graduated from high school because DVD players were pretty expensive in the early to mid 2000s, we had VCRs that worked perfectly fine, and all of our VHS tapes worked just fine too, so we didn't feel the need to upgrade until the price of DVD players went down to something affordable. Plus with the death of VHS in 2005 through to 2006, it made sense to keep renting and buying movies that way. So I'm going to talk about those too.
Comics and books are going to go that way too. Just ones that I had when I was a kid and into high school. It narrows things down to basically my favourites and things that I can talk about easily whether I revisit those tapes, DVDs, comics, and novels, or talk about them from memory, which I can do if I watched them or read them enough times. I might do that with video games too, but most of my video game memories come from watching my family playing the games rather than me playing them myself. Especially when I was younger. Though once I got to late elementary school and into middle school and high school, I actually played the games myself more often. But we'll see. For now, just VHS, DVDs, comics and novels.
Anyways guys that's going to be it for me for today. Join me over on JC's History of Television (my new blog in case you were wondering) tomorrow for my review of the Mickey Mouse cartoons, and then join me back here on Saturday for a comic book review. Until then have a great evening and I will talk to you all later. Take care.
