Hey guys! Today was a busy day but before I head off to bed for the night, I just wanted to talk to you about the blog for a bit and kind of let you know what's going on. It'll be quick because like I said, it was a busy day and I'm tired.
Unlike on Word Press, I can see the analytics for each individual post that I put up on the blog and I've noticed something interesting. The most viewed posts are the movie reviews and the Living With Disabilities posts. Though my recent book review of Velocity Weapon by Megan O'Keefe did pretty well too. But the TV show reviews, Geek Talk from the Basement, the majority of the comic book reviews, and the majority of the book reviews don't do quite as well. And it isn't just that certain reviews aren't doing well because the books or comics aren't well known or aren't as well liked, it's that people aren't responding to reviews of older things, except for movies, because right now, people are watching older movies more than they're reading older comic books, or comic books in general, or older novels.
Here's the thing though. I don't review new comics or novels, at least, not that often. As you've seen, the only new comics that I'm reviewing are things like Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys: The Death of Nancy Drew or Robin 80th Anniversary 100 Page Spectacular. This blog has always been about nostalgia. I grew up in the '90s and the 2000s, with some influence from the '80s. So because of when I grew up, I'm going to have more love for the movies, comics, books and TV shows of those decades more than anything else. I'm also Canadian and so from time to time I'm going to talk about shows from the '90s and early 2000s that maybe you've never heard of before, because they're Canadian.
When I first started the original Geek Outpost blog in February 2015, I made a conscious effort to focus on the movies, shows, books and comics that I watched and read growing up in the '90s and 2000s. I can't always go see movies as soon as they come out, especially now in 2020 when COVID-19 is preventing me from doing so. I also can't watch every TV show on the air or read every new novel or keep up with all of the current comic books. Which is why this blog has always focused on yesteryear rather than the present. I have a lot of movies, books, comics and TV shows from the past and it's enough material that I can keep this blog going indefinitely. And as you saw with Time Toys and Odd Thomas I'm always discovering movies through IMDB and looking up the filmographies of particular actors and actresses that I took note of in a particular movie. Even if it's not a well known film because it didn't have an advertisement campaign when the movie was released or it was overshadowed by a bigger movie.
So, I'm going to keep doing Living With Disabilities, which has been postponed for a bit, as not all of my friends were able to get their contributions for the post that was supposed to go up on Monday to me on time. To be fair, they are pretty busy individuals, and I also forgot to remind them of it in a reasonable amount of time, so that's why the post didn't go up on Monday like I had originally planned. Not to worry though, I have other ideas for Living With Disabilities that I have planned until I'm able to get that special post up. Like I said, the Living With Disabilities posts are the more well viewed posts. They can also be emotional ones for me because I'm remembering the bad times along with the good ones, and it brings back a lot of emotions for me. So even trying to do it twice a month is insane. So that'll be once a month for sure.
I'm stopping regular comic book reviews. As I said, they don't do nearly as well as I thought they would, so I'll only review a new comic book if I get an issue I feel like I have something to talk about with, like The Death of Nancy Drew issues that I've done reviews for already or a particular storyline from the past that I have things to talk about. Like I'd like to review all three parts of the Knightfall series as well as all three books in the Star Wars: Dark Empire Trilogy, Watchmen, Batman: Year One, Batman: Year Two, and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. I also wanna do a review of the comic book adaptation of Batman Forever just because that was one of my favourite comics when I was a kid, and there's a story behind how I got it too.
As for the book reviews, I'm going to review Ready Player Two when it comes out next month, but other than there are a couple of Star Trek novels from the '90s and the late 2000s that I'm planning on reviewing just because of how much I love those particular books. I'm also going to review some of my favourite Star Wars novels from the '90s, 2000s and 2010s that helped keep my love of Star Wars alive when there weren't any movies coming out. Then the last book I would like to review is The War with Mr. Wizzle by Gordon Korman, which was renamed The Wizzle War during one of the reprintings in the 2000s for some inexplicable reason. I already reviewed This Can't Be Happening at Macdonald Hall and The War with Mr. Wizzle is my favourite book in the Bruno & Boots/Macdonald Hall series, as well as my introduction to the series.
As for TV shows, I'm going to try to keep up with season premieres and full season reviews of the current seasons of my favourite modern day TV shows. So like Lower Decks has it's season finale next week and so I'll have a review of season 1 up for you after that, and then both Star Trek: Discovery and The Goldbergs come back this month, and The Orville is coming back at some point, so I'll be doing season premiere and full season reviews for all of those upcoming seasons. I'm also going to do season by season reviews of Fuller House very soon too just because it just finished it's final season back in like May or June, so it's a modern series that's complete. It's on Netflix and I can binge it pretty well on most nights, except on Thursday nights since Discovery is on at like 9 pm and is an hour long or longer, depending on the episode. Lol.
Alright guys, that's it, I'm off to bed. I'll be back tomorrow with a review of Star Trek: 25th Anniversary Special that I have on VHS. I'll be talking about the documentary as well as the differences between what Star Trek was like back in 1991 and what Star Trek is like now in 2020. So definitely be here for that. Until then, have a wonderful night and I will talk to you all later.
